TRANSFORMING OMU ARAN GENERAL HOSPITAL INTO A TEACHING FACILITY WILL SAVE LIVES, BOOST HEALTHCARE ACCESS ENGR. (DR) JOHNSON ADEWUMI

In a powerful demonstration of vision and leadership, the Founder and Chancellor of Thomas Adewumi University, Engr. (Dr.) Johnson Bamidele Adewumi, has reaffirmed his commitment to advancing healthcare delivery and education in Kwara South through the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the University and the Kwara State Government.

Speaking at the MoU signing ceremony held at the Kwara State Ministry of Health, Ilorin, Dr. Adewumi lauded the initiative to convert the Omu-Aran General Hospital into a full-fledged Thomas Adewumi University Teaching Hospital as a transformational step that would not only enhance the quality of medical training but also improve access to life-saving healthcare services in the region.

“This is not just about TAU or myself; this is about the people of Kwara South,” he remarked. “Converting Omu-Aran General Hospital into a tertiary teaching hospital will save lives and enhance access to quality medical care. We are grateful to the state government, especially our governor, for making this possible.”

Dr. Adewumi emphasized that the collaboration marks a major milestone in the journey towards producing world-class healthcare professionals and addressing critical health emergencies in the region.

“This facility will serve as a breeding ground for academic excellence and a catalyst for social impact,” he said.He commended Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq for his forward-thinking approach and unwavering support in facilitating the partnership.

“Our performing Governor has once again proven to be a man of action. This development is not just an academic milestone for TAU; it is a life-changing achievement for the people who will now have closer access to tertiary-level care.”

Also speaking at the event, the Kwara State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Amina Ahmed El-Imam, praised Dr. Adewumi for his consistent drive toward community upliftment.

“Dr. Adewumi has shown great passion for community advancement through education and now, healthcare. We are proud to work with him,” she said. “This MoU is a testament to what can be achieved when public institutions partner with visionary private individuals.”

Traditional rulers who graced the occasion also echoed their support and appreciation, acknowledging the historic nature of the agreement and the Chancellor’s continued investment in regional development.

The transformation of the Omu-Aran General Hospital into a tertiary teaching hospital is expected to strengthen TAU’s medical training program, create job opportunities, and reduce the burden of long-distance travel for critical health services. It represents a bold step forward in both healthcare provision and educational excellence in Kwara South.
